Fun email personalities: Are you one among these?
We all have our preferences about life – and everything else that is connected with it; this also includes our emails. Yes, strange though it may sound, studies reveal that users have specific preferences for e-mails too. Even if you may not notice it, you would definitely have a particular style of managing your mailbox. This trait can uncover a lot about you and help you understand your personality… Mailbox management can reveal personality? Wait till you have read through this article…
You love organizing your mailbox just as you like to keep your wardrobe clean. You read through every mail and tag it, sort it, place it in its relevant folder and may be even create multi-level chains to group it. Cool… you are an organizer in real life and wish to bring the same elements over to your inbox. While you are smart and can find an old mail in just a few seconds, most of this organizing task mayn’t actually help you. One, because most mails become redundant over time and lose significance and two, if you re-visited the folders to remove these mails – well, you’d be actually wasting so much time.
You aren’t an ardent believer of organizing stuff if you belong to this category. Eligibility for entering this group: only one folder – the Inbox. All your mails arrive here and stay here for eternity (till you delete or archive them). You certainly don’t waste time grouping mails as an organizer does; but, also you don’t come across as a smart person who systematizes work (read mails). Imagine forgetting the subject line of a mail you’re looking for and having to scrutinize the entire Inbox! Also, you’d have to constantly battle a slow e-mail application, almost always by default.
You love technology and believe that it is meant to simplify your life. You are an organizer to the core – the only distinction between you and our first category in this list, you automate things and don’t really manually do stuff. You create rules to send different mails to different folders, you color code them and set alerts. So far, so good. What if a rule goes wrong? What about you having to check each folder every time, simply to ensure you haven’t missed out on an important mail? Not only mails from your boss need to go into the priority folder – unless you make the effort, you could pretty well be missing out on the parties and out-of-work happenings just because you forgot to check this particular folder you had automated.
E-mails are boring for you and you seldom make the effort to reply to mails. Not that you’d be a professional; even if you are just a student or a homemaker, if you have shared your email address with friends and acquaintances, some time or the other one could want to write you a mail. So, while you’d rather check your social media account than check your mail, be prepared to miss the note from your that friend who relocated or a cool party invite.
We aren’t preaching the type that is best – your mailbox, your choice! Be the one that you are or better still, try to be one who you are not! Share with us the email personality makeover you’d like to check out…
