Fix the winmail.dat attachment issue in Microsoft Outlook 2003 on Windows XP- Method 3
In order to fix the issue where e-mail recipients receive Winmail.dat attachments included in received e-mail messages in Microsoft Outlook 2003, all you need to do is set plain text in the recipient’s contact record on your Windows XP-based PC. The winmail.dat file is used to preserve formatting that the sender includes in the message. And there could be a situation when the receiver does not recognize. Please remember that In Outlook, the winmail.dat file comprises of instructions for Rich Text Formatting, also called as RTF.
This issue can be fixed by removing the RTF format from the recipient attribute in the Personal Address Book. Wondering how? Here’s how:
1. Open Outlook.
2. Open the recipient's record in the ‘Contacts’ folder.
3. Double-click the recipient's e-mail address.
4. In the ‘E-Mail Properties’ dialog box, click ‘Send Plain Text only’ under ‘Internet Format’ and click ‘OK’.
5. Click on ‘Save and Close’.
