Microsoft Outlook 2003: How to manually compact .PST files in Windows XP?
There are several ways in which you can manage your Microsoft Outlook 2003 application to continue performing the best. One way is to archive the .PST files and also delete them, so that you have better space available in the program. When you delete a .PST file, it automatically gets compacted, without you having to intervene. However, if you wish to manually do it and not really eliminate a file, you can do so easily by following the steps provided below.
The steps below are particularly relevant if you are using a Windows XP-based PC.
1. Open Microsoft Outlook 2003.
2. On the “File menu, click “Data File Management.
3. Click to select your “Personal Folder, and then click the “Settings option.
4. On the General tab, click on “Compact Now.
5. Click “OK and then click on “Close.
The process may take a few minutes to complete, so don’t attempt to discard it mid-way. Also, once the .PST files are compacted and the process is complete, you will not need restarting it. You can start to send and receive mails and invitations almost instantly after the process is over…
