Explore your e-mails in a whole new way with Mail in Mac® OS X Lion
If we do a poll to find out the most important or frequently used built-in program in a system, then there is every chance that the e-mail client would be one of the top contenders. It is a program that we can’t do without, whether it is to do business or for interacting with our friends. Our day is incomplete unless we go through the mails in the inbox. If you are a Mac user, you must be familiar with its OS X e-mail client, Mail. It is a very fine product that can do a lot of things superbly, but it is best known for its capability to seamlessly integrate with other OS X apps and technologies. However, like any other application, it also needs a facelift from time to time to stay relevant and meet the expectations of users. It is this compulsion to improve that has led to the release of Mac OS X Lion with an updated Mail. The update, in fact, is significant on many counts. Let us try to find out:
Centralized account management
If you use Snow Leopard, then you need to set-up different accounts in separate sections of the e-mail client, such as e-mail accounts within Mail, calendar accounts within iCal, contact-server accounts within Address Book, and more. However, you no longer need to do it with the new and updated Mail. You just need to use the ‘Contacts & Calendar’ accounts pane of ‘System Preferences’ for configuring Gmail, Yahoo, and AOL accounts, as well as generic e-mail, chat, CalDAV, CardDAV, LDAP, and Mac OS X Server accounts.
Long standing demand for a full-screen mode is answered in the new Mail. To turn on the ‘Full-screen’ mode, all you need to do is click on the ‘Full-screen’ button at the upper-right corner of the Mail window. This will give you a clearer and bigger view of the Mail window.
Manage e-mails automatically with Conversations
Explore a whole new way of reading and managing e-mails with Conversations. It not only integrates effortlessly with other e-mail applications, but automatically groups messages from the same conversation. As grouped messages follow a chronological pattern, it eliminates the need to search for individual messages. Since it is a chain, and not scattered messages, managing them is much easier and more convenient.
Do a quick scan with Preview feature
Get summarized, only first two lines, display of an e-mail for a quick scan. Described as Compact Preview, this feature can also be customized to add more lines of a message. Even photos of the sender can be displayed using this feature.
Intelligent Search mechanism
Searching for messages is easier now with the ‘Search Suggestions’ feature. It provides suggestive matches every time you type something- be it’s the name of the sender, a keyword, or some portion of the message.
Mail will bring new freshness to the way you used to deal with your mails. The process will be more fun, and you will no longer fill like smashing your head when things are going out of your hand. So, just opt for the new Mail in Mac OS X Lion, where everything is smooth and sorted out.
