It is also equipped with several useful features like automatic backup of messages and folders, anti-spam, mailing lists and newsletters. The client may sometimes show some problems and error messages while sending or receiving emails. The errors may arise due to several reasons.

Mail Server errors
Different types of errors come up while sending emails using Microsoft Outlook Express 6.0. Sometimes it comes with an error message saying “550 – Relaying not allowed”. This error is actually generated at the mail server and not by the Outlook Express 6. It indicates that the server can not recognize the users as an authorized user and so it rejects the email. This problem occurs mainly when users use multiple ISPs since the ISP uses IP addresses instead of email accounts for representing users.
Another type of error comes when a user tries to reply to a long threaded newsgroup. While replying to a long newsgroup message the Microsoft Outlook Express 6.0 pops up an error message showing “Malformed message ID : Line 3 References too long”. The line 3 of the message actually contains a reference header that holds the message IDs of every message in the thread. When this line becomes too long, the client adds a carriage return making the last message ID invalid and thus the reply comes back.
Microsoft Outlook Express 6.0 comes with options for fixing the known issues. The errors caused by multiple ISPs can be fixed easily by changing the SMTP server. This can be made by the following steps. Select Accounts from the Tools menu. It will display a list of accounts based on the account names. Select the appropriate account name and select Properties. Under the properties window select Servers and here the SMTP server can be modified. The error caused while replying to a long threaded newsgroup can be fixed by the following steps. First of all, save the reply to a hard drive location by selecting ‘Save as’ from the File menu. Once saved, you need to open the *.eml file with a notepad and remove message IDs in the middle of the line 3, References. Save the edited notepad, and double-click it to open and click send.
