Getting familiarization with Outlook 2003
Microsoft Outlook utilizes PST files. The PST is actually an acronym for Personal Storage Tables. These PST files store all your contact and e-mail information, as well as the structure for your e-mail folder. E-mails you receive are automatically saved in your PST file. Outlook 2003 receives e-mails and writes them to a file named Outlook.pst. This is true for all your e-mail accounts associated with Outlook. You are able to change this file or even create a separate file with its own unique name. From the main window click on ‘Tools’ and then go to ‘Email Accounts’. You can add and remove the favorite folders much like favorites on your web browser. Select the folder and drag it to the favorites.
Utilizing Favorite Folders in Outlook 2003
Microsoft has made Outlook extremely user friendly in that they have provided a feature entitled Favorite Folders. This feature allows you to organize your inbox to save time. The Favorite Folders are shown on the Mail tab. To add a folder to your favorite folder list, click on it and drag it to the favorite folders area. A grey line will appear telling you where you need to drop it. You can customize the order of your favorite folders in any manner you choose.

Outlook 2007 was designed to be used with Windows Vista; it however works fine with Windows XP. It has several upgradations from Outlook 2003 from previewing message attachments to integrated RSS feeds. Like Outlook 2003, Outlook 2007 uses PST files. These can be changed or modified as well. There are a few modifications from the 2003 version. We will go over them below.
Changing Folder Settings
Outlook 2007 creates PST files in a new format which allows larger file sizes and Unicode. Each mailbox that you create can have different settings in Outlook. If you want to make everything uniform in your user pane, then reset completely to the default view and then have your new settings applied to all your folders at the same time. Make sure Outlook is closed. Then open the start menu and click on Run. Type “outlook.exe/clean views into the text box and hit OK. This will restore Outlook to default settings. Open Outlook and log in. Go to the View menu along the top of your toolbar and click on Arrange by Submenu. Expand the Current View menu and select Current View. Follow the instructions that appear in the text box. Click on OK when you are finished with your personalization. Then you will see all your changes take place at once.
