Outlook 2010 Autocomplete Feature Not Working
Microsoft Outlook 2010 uses a feature called AutoComplete that is very useful for giving automatic suggestions. It helps to give name as well as e-mail address suggestions. This is done by simply starting to type the name accordingly. The names are typed and suggestions appear in the 'To', 'Cc' and 'Bcc' boxes. The suggestions are matched according to the given list of names as well as e-mail addresses. You can enable or disable this option. This can be done by clicking at the 'File' Tab and selecting 'Options' and then click the 'Mail' option. Check the 'Use Auto-Complete List' option from 'Send Messages' column to suggest names in the 'To', 'Cc', and 'Bcc' boxes.
Following are the reasons due to which the AutoComplete feature may not work in Microsoft Outlook 2010 and ways to fix associated issues:
- Use of 'Check Names' Option
- AutoComplete Option Disabled
- Tips to Fix Issues
Use of 'Check Names' Option
With the 'Check Names' option enabled, it is quite difficult to use the AutoComplete feature. The 'Check Names' feature is available in interactive and background process formats. It is available on the 'Formatting Toolbar' to check the part of the name typed. This is done in an interactive manner. To do a background search, you have to type part of the name or address and then move to the 'Message' body. This often consumes more time. At the 'Tools' option, select 'Options to get E-mail Options' and then 'Advanced E-mail Options' to disable automatic name checking.
AutoComplete Feature Disabled
The AutoComplete feature will not work in Microsoft Outlook 2010 when it is disabled. Follow below steps to enable AutoComplete Feature:
- In Outlook Click File Tab
- Choose Mail Option
- Scroll roughly halfway down until you see Send messages. Ensure the Use AutoComplete List to suggest names when typing in the To, Cc, and Bcc lines box is checked.
Tips to Fix Issues
When using the upgraded version of Microsoft Outlook i.e. Microsoft Outlook 2010, you have to import the AutoComplete data with the '.nk2' file in its earlier versions. This is done to update the AutoComplete data. By emptying the AutoComplete list, you cannot find names or addresses in the 'To', 'Cc', and 'Bcc' boxes. So, it is better to have a small list of names and addresses. You can get names and e-mail addresses by opening %LOCALAPPDATA%MicrosoftOutlook from the 'Start' button and right-clicking at the 'RoamCache' folder. You can change the folder name to 'old_RoamCache' and then restart Microsoft Outlook 2010.
