Why blocked access error message appears in Microsoft® Outlook?
Microsoft Outlook is an e-mail client that manages all your e-mails. You might have some personal information in these mails. Using Microsoft outlook you can manage your e-mails, calendars, tasks and even contacts. Microsoft Outlook allows you to work on your e-mail even when you are offline. You just need the Internet connection when you want to send your e-mail. Sometimes while accessing your e-mail you may receive an error message saying “Outlook Blocked Access. Usually you receive this message when your e-mail has attachments. This happens due to security feature in Microsoft Outlook since it blocks the attachments if it doubts about the presence of virus in the attachments. Sometimes uninfected files also may be blocked by Microsoft Outlook. Though Microsoft Outlook blocks the attachments, it will still remain in the mailbox. You may not be able to open, save or delete the file. You can fix the issue by following some easy steps.
Following are the steps required to fix the issue:
- Using File share
- Using Compression utility
- Changing the security settings
Using File Share
If you know that the attachments is not infected by virus then ask the sender to save the attachment to FTP site that can be accessed. Then ask the sender to forward you the link to the attachment so that you can access the attachment by clicking on it and then saving it on your system. Thus you can overcome the problem.
Using Compression Utility
Microsoft Outlook usually blocks the attachments based on the extensions of the file. Some files with ‘.exe’ as extension may not be virus infected but Microsoft Outlook blocks it. So when you want to receive the attachment, you need to ask the sender to resend the file after compressing it. Compressing the file changes its extension. As a result the file will not be blocked and so you can overcome the issue.
Changing the Security Settings
You need to change the security settings of Microsoft Outlook such that uninfected files may not be blocked. If your Microsoft Outlook security settings are configured by administrator of Microsoft Exchange server then you need to ask the administrator to set the security settings so that harmless attachments are not blocked from being accessed. As a result the issue can be fixed and so you can access the attachments.
