Fix Microsoft® Outlook slow loading issue
Are you facing slow loading issue in Microsoft Outlook? Learn how to resolve the problem
Microsoft Outlook is an e-mail client, which provides facilities such as an address book, scheduler, calendar and many more. The user can share information through Internet and also by creating folders to share information with others. At times, Microsoft Outlook does not load which creates difficulty for the user. There can be three reasons due to which Microsoft Outlook does not get loaded. These can be hardware issues, software issues or the large size of the PST file. Microsoft Outlook can run slow if there is insufficient RAM. If it is confirmed that Microsoft Outlook is not running slow due to hardware issues, it can be due to software issues. In such cases uninstall the additional Microsoft Outlook add-ins which are rarely used. The most important reason for the slow loading of Microsoft Outlook is the large size of PST. PST file has a limited size. When that limit is exceeded, Microsoft Outlook starts taking more time in performing tasks such as creating, sending and receiving e-mails. The PST files have to be made compact.
The following are the possible ways to fix the slow loading of Microsoft Outlook:
- Disable useless Microsoft Outlook add-ins
- Disable RSS feeds in Microsoft Outlook
- Compact the Outlook.pst personal folder
Disable useless Microsoft Outlook add-ins
For disabling the useless Microsoft Outlook add-ins, select Microsoft Outlook from the drop down menu in Microsoft Office from the 'Start' menu. Choose 'Run as Administrator' by right clicking on the .exe program of Microsoft Outlook. Once the application is loaded go to 'Tools' from the top menu and then 'Trust center'. On the left side menu, select the add-ins and then the manage option appears in the drop down menu. It is suggested to uncheck all the add-ins except for Windows Indexing. This change can significantly increase the speed of Microsoft Outlook.
Disable RSS feeds in Microsoft Outlook
Another issue is the default setting in Microsoft Outlook for a number of RSS feeds. RSS feeds normally contain the basic information for its notifications. Microsoft Outlook slows down while checking updates to these feeds. For disabling, go to 'Tools' in Microsoft Outlook and then select Account Settings followed by RSS feeds. Here the user can remove the feeds as required.
Another way to speed up Microsoft Outlook is to compress the e-mail folders so that they are not as large. It is best to delete the attachments larger than 1GB. In Microsoft Outlook, click on 'File' and then 'File Management'. Now click on the 'Data file' tab and double click on the data which the user has to compact. Then go ahead and click on 'Compact Now' button to reduce the size of the personal folder file.
