Customizing Current View
Microsoft Outlook comes with different methods for deleting duplicate entries from the contacts list. One option is to customize the ‘Current View’ of contacts list so that you can delete them easily. To do this, open ‘Contacts’ and then the folder where duplicate contacts are kept. Click the ‘Current View’ and then select ‘Customize Current View’. Click ‘Fields’ and select ‘Modified’ from the ‘Available Fields’ list. Click ‘Add’ and then move the ‘Modified’ field until it reaches at the top of the 'Show these fields in this Order' list. Click ‘OK’ and again ‘OK’. Open contacts, and select each duplicate contact by holding the ‘Ctrl’ key. After selecting the duplicate contacts, hit ‘Delete’ key. All of the selected duplicate contacts will now be deleted.
Using the Filed Chooser Box
Another way to do the same task is by using the ‘Field Chooser’. First of all, open ‘Contacts’ and click ‘View’. Select ‘Current View’ and then select ‘Phone List’. Right-click on the column header and click on ‘Filed Chooser’. Click on ‘All Contact Fields’ and then select ‘Created’. Hold the left mouse button while on the ‘Created’ option and drag it to the column header. Click on ‘Created’ which will arrange the contacts based on this header. Locate the first duplicate contact and click on it. Now locate the last duplicate contact to be deleted. Hold the ‘Shift’ key and click on it. This will select all the contacts between the two selected contacts. Hit the ‘Delete’ key. All duplicate contacts will now be removed.
