Mozilla® Thunderbird® Server Settings
Know about Mozilla Thunderbird and how you can configure server settings in it.
Mozilla thunderbird is an e-mail client developed by Mozilla Group. This is a free program which is open source and cross platform supported. Mozilla Thunderbird manages your e-mails, contacts, communications and e-mail transactions. Mozilla Thunderbird is available in different versions and you can easily upgrade your Mozilla Thunderbird to the latest and compatible version. Mozilla Thunderbird also allows managing the e-mails from other e-mail program such as Gmail or Yahoo Mail. Mozilla Thunderbird offers several features to provide security to your e-mails. It offers junk e-mail filters which block and move all the spam to a junk folder. You can set up multiple POP and IMAP e-mail accounts using Mozilla Thunderbird. Another advantage of Mozilla Thunderbird is that this program is easy to setup and configure.
Method to setup and configure the Mozilla Thunderbird server settings:
- Incoming Server Settings
- Outgoing Server Settings
- Additional Server Settings
Incoming Server Settings
While creating the mail account in this program, you have to configure Mozilla Thunderbird server settings. In order to setup and configure the same, open ‘Tool’ and select ‘Account Settings’. Now you can select the type of the incoming server. Then enter the type of incoming server and this may be usually POP. Then select ‘Use Global Inbox’. This option is used by the people having multiple POP mail accounts. Otherwise your mail account will have only one folder directory.
Outgoing Server Settings
One of the features of Mozilla Thunderbird is that it can support multiple outgoing e-mail servers. When you add an e-mail account in Mozilla Thunderbird, an outgoing mail server is automatically added to the list. You can access SMTP server from the Mozilla Thunderbird list. In order to access the same, go to ‘Tools’ and select ‘Account Settings’. Then select 'Outgoing Server SMTP' from the left pane of 'Account settings' dialog box. Mozilla Thunderbird keeps track of the outgoing server information separately from e-mail accounts.
Mozilla Thunderbird can set the outgoing server of the first account as default outgoing server. In some cases the mail server verifies the ‘From’ header, therefore you need to use different outgoing server for different accounts. You can set up additional outgoing server easily using Mozilla Thunderbird. Open the ‘Tools’ menu, select ‘Account Settings’ and go to the ‘SMTP’ page. Click on the ‘Advanced’ button and select ‘Add’ button. Now you can enter the server information such as user name, server name and the type of connection security and click ‘OK’. If you want to use this server as default, then select the server and click on ‘Set as Default’ and click ‘OK’.
