Autocomplete is a feature which when enabled, helps you to complete the entry in the address bar as soon as you type in few letters. It can remember anything, such as a user name, a URL or even password as you enter a web form. This feature speeds up the filling process without the need for typing as it provides a drop down list from previously entered values. In the case of e-mail programs, the feature of Autocomplete is used to type in the e-mail address of the intended recipients. It is relatively easier to select from the most commonly used e-mail addresses rather than typing them completely. The feature of Autocomplete is normally turned on by default in Windows Live Mail.

Here are the features, ways to disable or enable Autocomplete and methods to fix its common issues in Windows Live Mail:

  • Feature of Autocomplete in Windows Live Mail
  • Enabling or disabling Autocomplete in Windows Live Mail
  • Methods to fix its common issues

Feature of Autocomplete in Windows Live Mail
Windows Live Mail is an e-mail client which allows you to send and receive messages from multiple e-mail accounts. You can check messages from all e-mail accounts with the touch of a button. To enable this, you have to first install Windows Live Mail into your PC. Windows Live Mail has a feature called Autocomplete which will be turned on by default. This feature allows you to complete the e-mail address of the intended recipient without the need for typing it completely. Autocomplete can remember addresses of the most commonly used addresses. It displays a drop down list from which you can select the address.

Enabling or disabling Autocomplete in Windows Live Mail
The feature of Autocomplete will be turned on in Windows Live Mail by default. At times the presence of two similar names can be mistaken and the message can be sent to the wrong recipient. In such scenarios, it is better to turn off the Autocomplete feature. To turn off this feature, select ‘Options’ from the Tools menu and go to the ‘Send’ tab. Now uncheck the box showing ‘Autocomplete e-mail address when composing’. This will disable Autocomplete feature.

Methods to fix its common issues
One of the common issues while using Autocomplete feature is that it may complete incorrect mail addresses, though the correct address is present in the address book. This is because Autocomplete feature completes the entry from the recently used addresses entries rather than from the address book. Thus, if you have entered the address incorrectly, this feature completes the entry from the recently used address. To avoid sending to the wrong address you have to type the full address by selecting recipient in the new message window from the Tools menu.
